Polly Pocket Hangout Playhouse Review
Little Polly Pocket just made a BIG name for herself around here! My 3yr old has been playing with the Polly Pocket Hangout Playhouse and Stick & Play Game Room that we received from Mattel for days! She loves it (and I do, too! hehe) Even her 8yr old brother got in on the action with her… even if it was just to hang Polly upside down by her feet from the ceiling! They both got a huge kick out of that.
Polly, and all of the pieces that come with the sets actually, have suction cups on the bottom so
you can stick them where you want them to stay. I thought this was a really cool feature because I was worried about all those little pieces being strewn about the house and ending up who knows where! Baby Girl enjoyed being able to stick the toys anywhere (including on my storm door window! hehe) but I think she enjoyed the interactive parts most – namely the two elevators in Polly’s house. I can almost still hear little giggles and squeals as she let the cat go twirling down on the little elevator (shown to the right). She was also thoroughly entertained with the opening and closing of the refrigerator door (maybe just because she’s not allowed to do that with Mama’s? Who knows?!) She stacked the little plates of cupcakes and pizza in there and seemed to think it was just the greatest idea ever!
Then, I showed her how the game table flips back and forth for 2 different games for Polly and her friends to play, the pool flips over to reveal Polly’s bed and the wall of the bathroom flips around when you want to change the time of day. You can also acquire “room additions” for Polly’s house and they easily interlock just by setting one down over the tab of the other. Being able to change the toy in these ways gives a child’s imagination the spark it needs to create all sorts of different scenarios and stories while still using the same toy.
Mattel recommends the age range for this toy to be 4-10. Despite Baby Girl’s love for this toy, I’d have to say I somewhat agree with them. She tried putting her Game Room Polly in to the sitting position so she could put her in the swing and broke the casing that forms the sockets for the doll’s legs. An older child may have known ahead of time to be more careful with such small toys – and admittedly, I should have explained that to my 3yr old to begin with. So, I take responsibility for that. After inspecting the rest of the items, I can genuinely say Mattel has made a quality product line with the Polly Pocket toys.
I also can guarantee Baby Girl be asking for more additions when it’s time to start making that birthday wish list (probably sooner!) …. and I’ll be happy to oblige. I love how this toy has kept her actively engaged in pretend play for hours already! I think, in this day of video games and electronics, it’s a special treat to find a toy that really captures and nurtures a child’s imagination to help them grow.
Speaking of games, be sure to swing by the Polly Pocket website to view games, videos and more!
